Indications
Advocate is indicated for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis) and the prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis. It also treats and controls intestinal worms, including roundworms (Toxocara canis), hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum), and whipworms (Trichuris vulpis). Additionally, Advocate treats sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei), ear mite infestations (Otodectes cynotis), and certain skin parasites. This product is suitable for dogs and puppies 7 weeks of age and older, weighing under 9 lbs (under 4 kg).
Possible Side Effects
The most commonly reported side effects of Advocate include temporary hair loss at the application site, mild temporary skin irritation, and salivation if the animal licks the application site immediately after treatment. In rare cases, pets may experience vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, lethargy, and hyperactivity. If any adverse reactions persist or worsen, consult your veterinarian.
Precautions
Imidacloprid and Moxidectin, the active ingredients in Advocate, belong to classes of drugs that have been associated with neurologic adverse reactions such as tremors, ataxia, and seizures.
