Description
Valuheart Monthly Heartworm Tablets (23–44 lbs / 11–20 kg) deliver a monthly 120 mcg ivermectin dose to intercept Dirofilaria immitis tissue-stage larvae before they progress to adulthood. Each tablet in this variant is color-coded green, distinguishing it from the blue (up to 22 lbs) and gold (45–88 lbs) formulations. Manufactured by Value Plus Animal Health Care Products and registered under APVMA number 66287/53240, this is a single-ingredient oral preventive without additional parasiticide components.
Recommended for
Dogs weighing 23–44 lbs (11–20 kg) from 6 weeks of age.
Indication/Coverage
For dogs suffering from, or at risk from, heartworm infection:
- Prevention of heartworm disease: Eliminates tissue-stage larvae of Dirofilaria immitis acquired during the 30-day period preceding each dose; established adult worms in the cardiovascular system are not affected by this product.
Key Benefits
The green Valuheart tablet addresses the dosing requirements of medium-sized dogs with the following labeled attributes:
- Mid-Range Weight Coverage: Formulated for dogs from 11 to 20 kg, this variant closes the gap between the small-dog blue tablet and the large-dog gold tablet without requiring dose splitting or combination.
- Minimum Dose Compliance: Each green tablet delivers 120 mcg ivermectin, meeting the minimum labeled dose of 6 mcg per kg bodyweight across the full 11–20 kg range.
- Monthly Larval Elimination: Each dose clears immitis L3 and L4 larvae acquired in the preceding 30-day window, interrupting larval progression before they develop into adult worms.
- Early-Life Eligibility: Labeled from 6 weeks of age, covering medium-breed puppies through to adulthood within this weight class.
- Retroactive Coverage Window: Treatment initiated up to 4 months after first mosquito exposure still controls heartworm infection, provided monthly dosing continues for a minimum of 12 months.
- Broad Breeding Safety: Label data confirm safe use in stud dogs, pregnant bitches, and lactating females at standard doses without restriction.
- Flexible Oral Delivery: The tablet may be hand-fed, incorporated into a meal, or concealed in a treat, accommodating dogs that resist handling required for topical spot-on products.
Caution
Hazards to Humans
Keep out of reach of children. Wash hands after handling tablets or contact with the dog’s saliva shortly after dosing. If accidental ingestion occurs, seek medical attention promptly. Avoid allowing children to handle tablets directly.
Hazards to Domestic Animals
Valuheart is for oral use in dogs only; do not administer to cats or other species. This variant is labeled for dogs from 6 weeks of age weighing 11–20 kg. Dogs with no prior heartworm prevention history or a lapse in their preventive program should be tested for adult heartworm and circulating microfilariae before the first dose, as this product does not eliminate adult infections. Consult a veterinarian before use in debilitated, aged, or underweight animals. Individual sensitivity reactions, while uncommon, have been observed; discontinue and seek veterinary assessment if unexpected signs develop.
Possible Side Effects
Monitor your dog for at least 30 minutes following the first administration and after any dose given to a dog with suspected prior mosquito exposure.
The following reactions have been documented in clinical settings:
- Transient diarrhea: Observed in dogs harboring circulating microfilariae at the time of dosing, arising from a hypersensitivity response to dying microfilariae rather than direct ivermectin toxicity.
- Individual sensitivity: A small proportion of dogs may exhibit atypical reactions at the labeled dose; discontinue administration and seek veterinary assessment if neurological signs, excessive salivation, or persistent lethargy develop.
Contact a veterinarian promptly if any side effect persists beyond 24 hours or worsens after the initial dose.
