Description
Bravecto Spot-On For Cats 6.2-13.8 lbs (2.8-6.25 kg) with 250 mg fluralaner delivers systemic isoxazoline protection against fleas and three tick species through a single topical tube applied once every 12 weeks. Each tube is formulated to provide a minimum dose of 40 mg/kg body weight, with the active ingredient absorbed through the skin and distributed via systemic circulation.
Recommended for:
Cats and kittens weighing 6.2 to 13.8 lbs (2.8 to 6.25 kg) from 6 months of age.
Indication/Coverage
For cats suffering from, or at risk from, parasitic infestations involving fleas and ticks:
- Flea treatment and prevention: Kills adult Ctenocephalides felis (cat flea) and prevents reinfestation; laboratory data confirm over 98% reduction in live flea counts within 12 hours of application, sustained across the full 12-week dosing period.
- Black-legged tick control: Treatment and control of Ixodes scapularis infestations; over 94% effectiveness measured at 48 hours post-infestation, maintained for 12 weeks.
- Asian longhorned tick control: Treatment and control of Haemaphysalis longicornis infestations; over 94% effectiveness at 48 hours post-infestation for 12 weeks.
- American dog tick control: Treatment and control of Dermacentor variabilis infestations; over 98% effectiveness for 8 weeks post-dosing. Efficacy against this species is not sustained beyond 8 weeks; an 8-week redosing schedule applies when D. variabilis exposure is ongoing.
Key Benefits
The points below reflect labeled efficacy data and formulation characteristics specific to the 6.2 to 13.8 lb variant:
- Mid-range cat coverage: Approved for cats from 6.2 lbs (2.8 kg) and 6 months of age, spanning the weight range of most adult domestic shorthair and medium-build cat breeds.
- Multi-species tick control: A single tube addresses I. scapularis, H. longicornis, and D. variabilis concurrently alongside C. felis fleas, covering the primary ectoparasites of clinical concern across U.S. regions.
- Systemic distribution: Fluralaner enters systemic circulation after dermal absorption; peak plasma concentrations are reached between 7 and 21 days post-application, with an elimination half-life of 11 to 13 days.
- Rapid flea kill onset: In laboratory studies, 100% of fleas were killed within 8 hours of treatment; over 98% reduction in live flea counts was achieved within 12 hours, including after re-infestation across the 12-week interval.
- 12-week protection interval: One tube every 12 weeks covers fleas and three tick species, replacing the monthly application schedule required by most alternative flea products for this weight class.
- Flea allergy dermatitis clearance: Sustained flea elimination in field studies produced documented resolution of dermatitis signs including erythema, alopecia, papules, scales, crusts, and excoriation attributable to flea allergy in cats.
- Topical format for oral-resistant cats: The spot-on application eliminates reliance on palatability or swallowing compliance, which is a practical advantage for cats that consistently reject chewable or oral formulations.
- Year-round initiation: Treatment may begin at any point in the calendar year and continue without seasonal interruption or a loading period.
Caution
Hazards to Humans
Not for human use; keep out of reach of children and store in original packaging until the moment of use. Avoid skin and eye contact during application; flush eyes with water immediately if exposure occurs and seek medical advice if contact lenses are worn. Wash hands and any contacted skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling. The product is highly flammable; keep away from heat, open flame, and ignition sources.
Hazards to Domestic Animals
For topical use only; avoid oral ingestion. This variant is indicated for cats and kittens from 6 months of age weighing 6.2 lbs (2.8 kg) or more. Safety has not been established in breeding, pregnant, or lactating cats; consult a veterinarian before administering to animals in these categories. Fluralaner is an isoxazoline-class compound associated with neurologic adverse reactions including tremors, ataxia, and seizures in cats, including those with no prior neurologic history. Use with caution in cats with a history of neurologic disorders.
Possible Side Effects
Monitor your cat for at least 48 hours following spot-on application, paying particular attention after the first dose.
The following adverse reactions are drawn from the U.S. field study (n=224 fluralaner-treated cats over 105 days) and post-approval reporting for fluralaner:
- Application site reactions: Greasy, oily, or wet appearance at the base of the skull is commonly observed in the hours after dosing; matting, clumping, or hair spiking at the application site was recorded in margin-of-safety studies at doses up to 5x the labeled amount.
- Gastrointestinal signs: Vomiting was reported in 7.6% of treated cats in the field study; diarrhea occurred in 4.9% and decreased appetite in 3.6% over the 105-day observation period.
- Dermal signs: Pruritus was recorded in 5.4% of fluralaner-treated cats; alopecia in 4.9%, and scabs or ulcerated lesions in 2.2%.
- Systemic and neurologic signs: Post-approval reports include ataxia, muscle tremors, lethargy, hypersalivation, behavioral changes (hyperactivity, hiding, vocalization), and generalized pruritus. Two cats in the European field study experienced tremors, lethargy, and anorexia within one day of dosing; both recovered within 48 to 72 hours.
Contact a veterinarian if any of these signs emerge or do not resolve within 72 hours.

Being able to obtain Bravecto without a costly prescription nor annual vet visits (what a con) is wonderful. My elderly cat has a bad allergy and chews herself soggy when a flea looks at her. Bravecto calms all that down and lasts much longer, you don’t need to use it every 3-4 weeks. Well done, Anipet and thank you.
This Bravecto has made a noticeable difference in my cat’s comfort and health.
